Simian Substitute Site for December 2008: Monkey Business

Monkey BusinessLordy, it's December already. Maybe this'll be the year when I finally come good on my regular threat to redo the site banner with seasonal snow on the tops of all the letters. Let me have a think about it and get back to you.

As it's year end, plans for the usual celebrations are well under way: though as ever, it's a toss-up as to whether you'll get to see the results of them here this month, or will have to wait till January. Either way, expect another one of our Pick Of The Year CDs, and a report on the annual VidBinge. There may also be an update to the Travel section, but I'm not at liberty to discuss that as yet.

In the meantime, your Simian Substitute Site for December 2008 is Monkey Business. It's the official site of a funk band that's been operating out of Prague since the turn of the century. Their live shows are apparently the stuff of legend, though fairly rare: so if you can get to Velký sál Lucerny in Prague in time for their Xmas 2008 gig on December 10th (featuring rocktastic special guest Glenn Hughes), it should be worth catching. If you can't make that one, their tri-lingual website (Czech, Spanish and English) will give you all the background and downloadable goodies you could possibly want. If you're in a hurry, there's also the inevitable MySpace page with a few streaming tunes on it.

There may be a reason why I've developed a sudden interest in the funk music of the Czech Republic, but I'm not at liberty to discuss that as yet.
